Four Characters in Search of a Random Exit

Four Characters in Search of a Random Exit, Generative Animation by Viktor Timofeev

This non-interactive work centers around four characters that procedurally act out a cyclical choreography, responding to individual environmental triggers. The left camera shows us a top-down, objective view of the characters’ bodies and the surrounding environment (or lack thereof), toggling between each of the characters every thirty or so seconds. The right camera shows us their first person view, illustrating the subjective realities they are responding to. The work was first exhibited as part of “Stairway to Melon”, an exhibition at kim? Contemporary Art Center in Riga, Latvia, where it was displayed on two screens, accompanied by four paintings and an illustrated text.
