Commensal

Commensal, an augmented reality installation work by Michael Rees

A variation of a project that appears in On Edge at the Aldrich Museum through January 14, 2019 and in Michael Rees: Synthetic Cells at Grounds for Sculpture through June 19, 2019.

A fly rubs its proboscis, then, its hind legs. It walks a bit, then leaps to flight. It lands and does it all over again. Flies are commensal in human environs so it seems natural that they would find their way into AR.

Special thanks to Milan Dolezal, programmer and Seong Joon Lee, animator.
