Double Zero Mobile, interactive work by Shane Mecklenburger
Double Zero is a pocket found only on American roulette wheels. It grants the casino house a greater advantage than non-American roulette wheels. Roulette is primarily a social game of pure luck. Its action relies on physics: centrifugal force, friction, velocity, mass, gravity, entropy. It involves skill only if one is cheating. On balanced wheels, bets are either arbitrary or based on superstition; unbalanced wheels permit cheating. In the aggregate, the casino will always come out on top. In their closed currency exchange system, casinos use chips which loosely represent coins. Mobile was coined by Marcel Duchamp as a term for kinetic sculpture in reference to works by Alexander Calder.
