Drippy, The Data Droplet

Drippy, the data droplet, and augmented reality work by Chris Collins

Drippy The Data Droplet was created with techniques and technologies both new and old. For his voice recognition features, he uses the Watson API (a powerful machine learning IBM cloud service that, in addition to answering your dumb questions about the weather, is also being used for cancer research, genome mapping, and is a Jeopardy! champion). But, Drippy also takes his cues from the history of chatbots, leveraging many of the clever, low-fi, “pre-machine learning” tricks that make those bots so charming and compelling, even when you can see the seams. I like to think that Drippy is half Alexa, half Elisa. That he is one part Façade, another part Fred the Webmate. The Loebner Prize vs Seaman, Hal vs furby, or an extremely advanced version of “tricking a speak n spell into saying a cuss”.Say hello to your new work friend.
